Our Philosophy

Chiropractic Care in Winston Salem

Eliminating pain at its root cause

through our expert chiropractic care

The above statement serves as a philosophy for all we do at Gray Chiropractic & Sports Associates (located in Winston Salem, NC for 25+ years). Holistic healing means we focus on you as an individual — someone who has a unique history, experiences, and pain. Our team, led by Dr. Gray, will diagnose and prepare an individualized treatment plan that delivers the best opportunity for success. We will get to know you and explore solutions that fit you and your life. What are your daily activities? What past injuries continue to impact your life? How is your diet influencing your body’s ability to heal and sustain itself? Ultimately, we will seek a path for you to more mobility, less restriction, better health, and an improved outlook.

What to Expect on your First Visit

During your initial visit, you should expect many questions (and we expect many from you).  Our experienced approach to information gathering is the optimal way for Dr. Gray to learn about what events or issues may have led to your current condition. Please allow  45-60 minutes for this first appointment, so no one is rushed, and you can get the most benefit.

The Visit Will Include:

Patient History

To prepare for your initial consultation with Dr. Gray, you will be asked to fill out forms that provide background information about your symptoms and condition. This will include information on family medical history, any pre-existing medical conditions or prior injuries, and previous and current health providers and treatments.

Exam

Gray will perform an examination that includes specific orthopedic and neurological tests to assess your range of motion; muscle tone; muscle strength; and neurological integrity. Based on this initial chiropractic exam, further chiropractic tests may be necessary to arrive at an assessment or diagnosis of the affected area.

Diagnosis

Diagnostic studies enable Dr. Gray to uncover any pathologies and identify structural abnormalities that can more accurately diagnose a condition. An outcome of the history, exam and any diagnostic studies will be a specific diagnosis. Once the diagnosis is established, Dr. Gray will determine if the condition will respond to chiropractic care, and he will explain in detail the diagnosed condition and a treatment plan.

Planning for Treatment

Dr. Gray will establish specific goals for your treatment plan, which will include:

  • Short term goals – to reduce pain and restore normal joint function and muscle balance
  • Long term goals – to restore functional independence and tolerance to normal activities

Each treatment plan is specific to you and your needs. During treatment, your treatment plan will be reevaluated based on your body’s response.

Treatment recommendations may include:

  • Adjustments to key joint dysfunctions
  • Modalities to improve soft tissue healing and pain control (laser, electrical stimulation and traction)
  • Exercises to improve muscles balance, strength, and coordination
  • Patient education to improve posture and motor control
  • Other treatments may include: massage, heat/cold application, and nutrition education
